- A great freedom fighter for our country.
- Where did he give a speech and to whom and when?
- In an open air public meeting near Victoria Hall, Bombay now Mumbai. on 25th July 1911.
- What did he say as his first rising ( replying ) duty?
- To tender or offer his sincere and grateful thanks to the students for their address.
- What did he say about the student's life?
- Is a sheltered life.
- What are the responsibilities during that life?
- Definite ones and they are assigned by the people who take care of them.
- There is less chance for using their own judgements.
- What happens in later life? This position is reversed.
- Certain responsibilities attached are to be discharged and carried out . Special rights, benefits and privileges will and prestige will come only after you perform the duties expected of you.
- How did he consider his duties? Under 4 heads.
- First which you owe yourself.
- second duty you owe to the fellow students.
- Third duty you owe to those in authority over you.
- Last duty you owe to those around you in the wider world.
- What did he say about duty to yourselves?
- It is two-fold.
- a) to lay by a stock of knowledge that will suffice or be enough for or be adequate for the examinations but which will be helpful to them in later life.
- Why did he say"Knowledge is an exacting mistress"?
- What is meant by exacting? Demanding
- Knowledge to be gained need whole-hearted devotion during especially in the student-hood.Take advantage as a student.
- and learn all which will be useful in later life.
- What did he say about the importance of character?
- With knowledge the character is also to be moulded and built.
- it is truism or a statement that is obviously true.
- Success depends upon not only knowledge but also character.
- It is unjust or invidious to distinguish knowledge and character.
- Both are indispensable meaning absolutely essential.
- Attach more importance to character than knowledge.
- ))))((((( If wealth is lost, nothing is lost. It can be earned again.
- if health is lost, something is lost. You can recoup by taking regular exercise and medicines.
- If CHARACTER is lost , everything is lost.There is no way
- you can get back.)))))(((((
- You have to acquire a character which will raise the whole life of people amidst whom you move and for whom you are expected to work in all seriousness and earnestness.
- Beware of the surroundings which will test your character.The stronger and the nobler will be an asset. You the seniors have to show the youngsters how to build a strong character.
- This way all of you will be able to do better work for the country.
- Knowledge with Character will take you to greater heights.
- This is what he meant by duty to yourself.
- What did he say about duty to fellow students?
- By adjusting and living with the junior students ,you will learn the habit of co-operation.
- Know how to get on with fellow students,it will stand its good course.
- Understand the feelings and consider others too.
- Acquire here in the school itself for it is difficult to acquire later in life.
- What did he say about the Third duty?
- Third duty is towards parents and teachers.
- obedience to parents and reverence for teachers will take you in the right direction.When you are young as a student try to follow them and listen to them.They are guiding you for your good only.When struggle of life starts you can stand on your own legs ,Then you owe it to yourself and to your country.and you are forced to use your own judgement.
